1. What is the difference between the AHS
and GED? Adult High School offer learners an opportunity to complete
the credits they need for a diploma fully accredited by the
State of Tennessee. The GED is based on a standardized test
given at various times and in different locations to show
an equivalence of high school education.
2. Who can enroll? Most
adult high school students have been out of school for several
years, but you must be 18 or older and officially dropped from
school. The student body is made up of a wide range of ages,
backgrounds, and interests. Nearly all our students are employed
either full or part time.
You might be as little as 67 hours away from a fully accredited
diploma! However, you may enroll to work on any number of credits.
If you have no credit, you will take the ABLE III test before
admission.
If you have already earned a GED, you may also earn the
diploma you missed when you were in school before.
3. How long will it take? The
amount of time it will take depends on 2 things: the credits
you lack, and the number of hours you can attend.
You can estimate your time by multiplying the credits you
need by 133 hours; for instance, if you lack American History
only, it will take you 133 hours, or if you only need one semester
of English IV, it will take you 67 hours. You may be able to
substitute work experience for elective credits you need.
4. How much will it cost?
Everything is FREE! 5. What will
I do? When you begin, a teacher will
study your past school records and work with you to establish
a plan of study that will work around your schedule.
You willthen begin completing your syllabus (a schedule
of assignments). You will always work at your own pace, and
a teacher will be there to help you. You will find a relaxed,
supportive environment in which you can be successful.
You may set you schedule to accommodate your needs. The
Adult High School is open days and evenings to accommodate
everyone's work and family schedule.
6. Where is the school?
Putnam County Adult High School is located in the old National
Guard Armory on East Spring Street, near Avery Trace Middle
