Message from Jimmie Webber, Principal
Putnam County has taken a leadership role in Tennessee by
its commitment to offering a quality program for adult learners
which fosters a renewed confidence in education--one student
and family at a time. Many citizens of the Upper Cumberland region have been unable
to complete a traditional high school diploma when they were
first enrolled. Almost always, the reasons for their leaving
school were legitimate ones over which they had minimal or
no control. Their not having the diploma has little to do with academic
ability, work ethic, or success in their current employment.
However, without the diploma, many doors are closed to them
professionally. Personally, many carry the emotional weight of not having
graduated no matter how successful they may have become.
As employees, they will believe themselves ineligible for
promotions and trainings (as indeed they may be). As community
members, they may feel inadequate to participate in civic
and church activities. Most importantly, as parents, they may think themselves
unable to help their children in school and to remain actively
involved in their childrens educational progress. The "unfinished business" of not graduating take
a tremendous toll on individuals, families, and this community. Additionally,
many World War I and II veterans left the business of their
education to serve their country. Recently
through Tennessee legislation co-sponsored by Senator Charlotte
Burks, these veterans and their families have been able to
receive diplomas by simple application through the Adult
High School.
May I encourage any who are interested in learning more
about our school to contact me or one of the other teachers?
